Cardano’s hybrid paradigm is gradually shifting towards full P2P networking, which is a revolutionary change that greatly enhances blockchain decentralization, security, and resilience. The upcoming Ouroboros Genesis upgrade, teased by IOG, marks the beginning of this shift. It introduces P2P activities in their entirety, eliminating the need for intermediaries and allowing participants to directly transmit and synchronize data.
In recent months, Cardano has made modest progress in this transition. One significant development was the introduction of Cardano’s Dynamic P2P technology in March 2023, which automated peer selection procedures. The upgrade to node v.1.35.6 further simplified the roles of relay and block-producing nodes and improved communication between dispersed nodes. Dynamic setups replaced static ones, eliminating the need for manual input from stake pool operators (SPOs).
IOG, the governing corporation of Cardano, has teased the highly anticipated Ouroboros Genesis upgrade. This is just the beginning of a series of modifications, with the complete Chang upgrade scheduled for the summer. During the genesis phase of the Cardano network, a predetermined selection of nodes will function autonomously.
The Ouroboros Genesis upgrade serves as a building block for Chang, streamlining the network setup process for newly-connected nodes. Currently, nodes need to obtain a secure SPO from a validator and coordinate with another reliable SPO or organization to join the network. However, with the integration of Ouroboros Genesis, this coordination becomes unnecessary as the upgrade enables an autonomous process.
