Anjarwalla’s lawsuit against the Nigerian government agencies was dismissed by the High Court due to a lack of diligent prosecution. Anjarwalla had claimed that his detention and passport seizure violated his rights.
The lawsuit, filed on March 28, demanded that the agencies’ conduct be deemed unlawful. Binance’s lawyer, Tonye Krukrubo, requested to be removed from the lawsuit at the same time. Anjarwalla, who had escaped to Kenya, was not present in court at the time.
Anjarwalla accused the government authorities of violating the Nigerian Constitution and both he and Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance, were detained on February 26. Gambaryan had traveled from the US to assist with the company’s defense against allegations of tax evasion and money laundering, leading to a rift between the US and Nigeria.
Gambaryan has also filed a lawsuit against the NSA and EFCC for the same reasons, with a hearing scheduled for July 9.
